Shail has an impressive background, having completed a law/science degree at the University of Melbourne in 1996. He began his legal career at Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst) and has worked both in-house and as legal counsel for regulators like Worksafe Victoria and the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria.

After earning his Master’s in Law in 2005, Shail transitioned to financial planning. He joined AFCA’s predecessor scheme in 2010 and became Ombudsman at AFCA in 2018, later serving as Senior Ombudsman (Investments and Advice) in 2021. As of May 2023, he officially stepped into the role of Lead Ombudsman for Investments and Advice.

With over a decade of experience in dispute resolution, Shail specialises in complaints related to financial planning, derivatives, managed funds, timeshares, cryptocurrency, and stockbroking.

Michael Furey started Delta Research & Advisory in 2012 with the goal of improving portfolio design including providing innovative quantitative-based investment and financial markets research for the private wealth industry.

Delta Advisory is focused on the investment committee function, including governance, asset allocation, investment selection, and portfolio design. Delta Research is the developer of Delta Factors, a multi-factor investment analytics system whose subscribers use to objectively build better
risk-managed investment portfolios. Clients of Delta range from boutique financial advisory firms to multi-national asset managers.
Michael is a Senior Fellow of FINSIA, Certified Investment Management Analyst®, and Certified Financial Planner®. His educational qualifications include Master of Applied Finance & Investment, Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning, Bachelor of Mathematics (Statistics), and has completed Level 2 Accredited Derivatives Adviser (ADA).

Adam N. Walk is a Director at Drew, Walk & Co., and a financial economist specialising in the areas of investment governance, pension finance, and investments.

Dr Walk’s research has been published in the Journal of Portfolio Management and the Journal of Retirement. With his colleague Professor Michael Drew, Dr Walk co-authored the monograph Investment Governance for Fiduciaries that was released by the CFA Institute Research
Foundation in April 2019.

He serves as a trustee director, chair of the risk committee and of the audit and finance committee, and member of the investment committee at Rest, chair of the investment committee at RSL Queensland, a board member of the Archdiocesan Development Fund of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane, and chairman and a trustee of Campion College Australia.

Dr Walk received his PhD in financial economics from Griffith University, Queensland, Australia.

He is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst® and a Certified Investment Management Analyst® designee.

Michael E. Drew is a Director at Drew, Walk & Co. and a Professor of Finance at Griffith University. He is a financial economist specialising in the areas of investment governance, pension plan design, and outcome-oriented investing.

Professor Drew’s research has been published in leading practitioner journals, including the Financial Analysts Journal and the Journal of Portfolio Management. With his colleague Dr Adam Walk, Professor Drew co-authored the monograph Investment Governance for Fiduciaries that was released by the CFA Institute Research Foundation in April 2019. He has been invited to make submissions and to testify before numerous committees, including the US Department of Labor and the SEC joint hearing on target-date funds.

Professor Drew serves as a trustee director and chair of the investment committee at CareSuper, a member of the investment advisory board of the Petroleum Fund of Timor-Leste, a trustee of Mary Aikenhead Ministries, and chair of Volunteering Australia.

He received his PhD in economics from the University of Queensland, is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst®, and is a Life Member of FINSIA, the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

Chris Humphrey is the Managing Director of the Humphrey Partners’ Group.

The group specialise in portfolio construction and management, superannuation advice, and taxation within the gamut of wealth management.
Chris is a CPA and SMSF specialist adviser. Prior to entering financial planning in 2007, Chris worked at various accounting firms and spent close to a decade at Deutsche and Dresdner Banks in London, Frankfurt and South-East Asia.

Chris is a co-founding director of The Investment Committee. The Investment Committee hosts an annual conference attended by in excess of 200 advisers. The conference focuses on investment governance and portfolio construction matters.

Chris believes that specialisation within financial planning, akin to that of the legal and medical
professions, is essential if the financial planning is to become a true profession.
