Shail has an impressive background, having completed a law/science degree at the University of Melbourne in 1996. He began his legal career at Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst) and has worked both in-house and as legal counsel for regulators like Worksafe Victoria and the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria.
After earning his Master’s in Law in 2005, Shail transitioned to financial planning. He joined AFCA’s predecessor scheme in 2010 and became Ombudsman at AFCA in 2018, later serving as Senior Ombudsman (Investments and Advice) in 2021. As of May 2023, he officially stepped into the role of Lead Ombudsman for Investments and Advice.
With over a decade of experience in dispute resolution, Shail specialises in complaints related to financial planning, derivatives, managed funds, timeshares, cryptocurrency, and stockbroking.
